A fight for the future as Oasis Academy Harpur Mount are set to attend Climate Change Summit

A group of young eco warriors are set to attend the Manchester Climate Change Summit 2019 in early July to address their concerns and voice their opinions on the UK’s current climate situation.

Oasis Academy Harpur Mount, situated in the Harpurhey area of Greater Manchester are up to the challenge to express their concerns about Climate Change; question politicians and other agencies about what they are doing to address this important issue and influence action for change.

The summit, set to take place at Whitworth Art Gallery, Oxford Road, Manchester on Friday 12th July will allow young people to hear from local politicians and environmental organisations, spend time in a marketplace activity looking at key issues in relation to climate change focusing mainly on; renewable energy, transport, and air quality, and be able to engage in a debate looking at the challenges of climate change and what the next steps should be in sorting this important issue and topic.

Melissa Buxton, Year 5 Teacher at Oasis Academy Harpur Mount, said; “The pupils are looking forward to attending their first Climate Summit in the coming weeks, and help the process of raising awareness of the issues surrounding climate change and sustainability.”

Around the world, we have around twelve years left to take action and drastically cut our reliance on fossil fuels to mitigate global warming and keep temperature to a maximum of 1.5 to 2 degrees Celsius.
