Dear Parents/carers,
As you all know, a member of our staff recently passed away and this has been a difficult week for our community. I would firstly like to thank you all for the compassion and kindness shown to our school as we navigate this hard time. The messages of support and acts of kindness has been really comforting. Fiona’s family have been really touched by the messages we have shared with them and it is clear to see how Fiona’s had such a big impact on the lives of both staff and children. She will be truly missed.
As a school community, we will be supporting the family at the funeral and therefore we will be closing the academy on Friday 8th March for the day so that staff and the community can attend the funeral and pay our respects. I am sorry for any inconvenience this causes.
Experiencing the death of someone we know and love is one of the hardest things we will have to work through. We have been so proud of the respect children have shown during this time. Children have been going out of their way to ask staff how they are. Children have truly displayed our 9 habits.
Again, please do not hesitate to contact us at any point should you want to discuss how this news is affecting your child. We know discussing these difficult matters can trigger emotions linked to other personal losses families have experienced. We remain committed to supporting every member of our community and thank you for supporting us.
Next week, starting on Monday we will be asking any families or children, if they chose too, (this is optional) – to add a daffodil to our school fence as a sign of our shared loss. This will be on the fence outside school, around the area where Miss Coverdale and I greet families in the mornings. Fiona’s family will be coming into the Academy next Wednesday as we pass on some art work and memories the children have designed.
It is often through times like this we reflect and remember how special our community is. Thanks for the ongoing support you show to our Academy.
